How lazy can you be? As an enduser.
Is the average internet user so stupid, that they cannot keep their machine from being abused by the Scammers and thieves that prolificate on the internet?
YES, the total complacency to the risks that exist, is given scant notice. Most hi-jacked or Virus infected machines could be avoided, if a little diligence and thought could be taken. It seems that the ever demanding enduser has little regard or respect for others when their selfish indulgences of downloading Porn, stolen music and files, opening e-mail from suspect sources, with substandard mail programs and browsers, from untrusted sources.
Its so simple LOOK, and take a bit of care by installing anti-virus program ( actually having to keep it updated, for it to be worth shit, but I suppose it depends on the users so busy self indulgent lifestyle ) as a start.
Also install a pop up blocker and even a Firewall. ( But this takes effort and dilligence to configure and maintain ) I can understand that the attitude " It will not happen to me" exists, now get F..ing real, with that kinda attitude,.
I think it is good when your machine is compromised, and I only hope the idiot that does compromise your machine, steals your identity and empties your bank account, and causes you enough hardship and aggrevation, that you can get your head out af your arse , and doubtfully get you to change your self centered selfish attitude towards other users of the interenet.
Operating a computer on the internet takes a little "grey matter", however keeping yourself protected does not. It takes effort and time, so if you dont have the time or dont make the effort, just stay off the F...ing Internet, go play in the traffic, you will be doing the rest of the internet community a favor.

Well, this goes without saying, access providers can provide "egress filtering" or contact their clients and educate them. BUT NO, they are too lazy, or do not have the skill to put this in place. ( probably dont have time , as they are too busy counting the monthly takings ). Admitedly, most providers employ support people, that are clueless, and train them to page through a hurriedly scripted online manual.
They all sound like f..king cluess parrots, at the best of times. I would guess the actual culprit is management, ( the asshole in charge who knows even less than the enduser ) who fail to provide the finances or allow adequit training as they are too busy lining their pockets, at everyone's expense. This can be seen by the number of high profile cases in the News of Executives lineing their pockets at the expence of their clients and shareholders.

Well, this goes without saying, hosting providers can provide "egress filtering" or contact their clients and educate them. BUT NO, they are too lazy, or do not have the skill to put this in place. ( probably too unskilled because they bought a Control Panel, got it installed ( a F**king miracle ) dont secure the machine, and let the dumb end user get caught. They love to say "it was an enduser ", instead of saying well we offer hacked machines, "we are too lazy and F**ing useless" to secure our network. Well I suppose you can expect that from poorly trained staff and inexperienced providers. Cheap is the word, cheap is meant to be on the security side and not the actual service.
